Mursi Woman โ€“ โ€˜Nasatuโ€™

Nasatuโ€™ is one in a series of incredible photographic images taken by Mario Gerth on his travels through Africa where he visited many of the indigenous tribes staying with families along the way exploring their rituals, culture and individual personalities. This is one of two portraits of Mursi tribeswomen that we have in the collection. Nasatu isa woman who is proud and strong but whose strength has come through facing all that life hands to her. Her adornments of horn, hide and beads shows her appetite for โ€˜fashionโ€™ and status within her culture with an inner confidence that is both calm and knowing.

Mario Gerth is a world class German photographer who has pursued his passion by documenting his travels through 80 different countries across the globe. My heart literally skipped a beat when I saw these images for the first time. They are powerful and entrancing with a softness of light and richness of texture that emerges boldly from the dark background making it seem almost possible to reach out and touch the skin of the person in the photograph.
